Not much of interest to the stove community today, although we all had great fun. There were seven of us having a leisurely breakfast at a lovely restaurant overlooking the beach, and it lasted until nearly noon. We then all walked over to the Cape Town Conference Center and went to INDABBA, the design expo.

Two hours of design was enough for all of us, but for me the most interesting part was meeting a PhD student from University of Johannesberg who was working with inexpensive water filters that had originally been designed for Guatemala by the folks at Potters for Peace. He also gave me a contact at University of Jo'berg for a man working on fuel-efficient stoves in Mozambique. I doubt I'll be able to contact him before we arrive there, but it will be interesting to follow up on it later.

We've just returned from a long walk by the beach. The weather is delightful, and I'm meeting Oliver and Sean for supper at the Savoy Cabbage. Oliver and Sean both have stayed with me in Eugene and now operate a program for student internships here in Africa.

Tomorrow I'm signed up for a "township tour" which is the only safe way to visit one of the black townships here in Cape Town. If I return in time I'll be meeting Margo, Celeste and Leslie and going to another wine farm, but the likelihood is that I'll have to suffer and just walk over to the Victoria Wharf and gaze at the water and enjoy the beautiful weather. It's hard to believe that it's snowing in Seattle!
