Hi all,
I'm totally exhausted but excited about everything we've experienced today. When I get a bit more time, I'll write more, but for now I just wanted to get started on letting you know that Elke and I are here in Antigua, Guatemala with Maco and Gustavo and are awaiting the arrival of Ken and Don tonight.
This morning we met Emily and her husband who are Peace Corps Volunteers in a community north of Huehuetenango, and Elke is excited about going with them to their site to start testing fires, learning about the culture, and experiencing Peace Corps life in Guatemala. They brought the gentleman who is in charge of health promotion for Peace Corps and we all went to Maco's factory to see the stoves he is producing. The factory is beginning to take shape and there is lamina on the beams we put up earlier, but there is still more to be done if anyone wants to come and help.
All of you who were here as volunteers will be thrilled to know that the neighbor, Hortencia, who received an Ecocina is thrilled with it and explained to all of the Peace Corps folks how much she loves her new stove. There was no hint of an open fire anywhere, so we feel it was a success.
There is much more, but I'm just too exhausted to write, and I have to get ready to meet Jeanette for supper so we can talk about legal issues regarding non-profit status for the factories.
By the way, Elke is beyond excited to be here and gave me a big hug and said, "I'm so happy as this feels just right for me!"
Who could ask for more?…well, I can also tell you that the weather is perfect, but that would just make you jealous…
