Hi all,

I am in a bit of a rush this morning as I’m off on a two-month trip! Three of us leave in an hour for Washington. We’re going to ETHOS, a conference of engineers working in technology for third-world countries. I’m giving a lecture about our stove and factory set-up, but the main reason we’re all going is to connect again with others who are doing similar projects.

On Monday Elke, our new intern, and I will fly out to Guatemala and meet Don Steely and Ken Goyer, two of our stove designers, there. We’ll be visiting the new factory we helped build this year as well as giving demonstrations to various Peace Corps Volunteers and finding new factory sites for stove building. We’ll go again to Honduras and end up in El Salvador at the factory we helped establish first.

On the 5th I’ll return to Eugene, sleep in my own bed, and then on the 6th I’ll drive to Portland with Leslie Mittleberg who is an importer of African goods. Leslie and I have an early flight to Senegal on the 7th, and I’ve gotten some good reading material to take along as it will be about 30 hours in transit time!

We’ll be in Senegal for about 10 days, then fly go Johannesburg and spend about ten days in a village to the north of there with some of Leslie’s friends who export goods to the U.S. From there we will either fly or drive to Capetown and spend another ten days. I’ll be happy to return as I believe it is an extremely beautiful part of the world!

From there our itinerary is unplanned for about three weeks, although we may go to Maputo and from there I’ll fly to Entebbe, Uganda. In that area I’m sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency and attending the Partnership for Clean Indoor Air conference where I will again give a presentation.

Anyway, this is to let you know that I’ll be back on April 2nd and so you’ll only hear from me by e-mail, but you can always check the NEWS section on our website at www.stoveteam.org and read my blog.

Keep well, keep happy, and know I'll miss you,

Nancy
